SKIPPERS LIST

Wheel

Just bought a new multihull and want to get it delivered to your home port?
Or thinking of selling one and getting it back to the UK to achieve a quicker sale and a better price?
We have a list of professional skippers used by other clients who have been

pleased with the standard of care of the vessel and satisfied that the fees have been charged fairly. These skippers will handle every aspect of the delivery for you. Your involvement and role as the client is entirely your decision.

Some points to remember when choosing the type of delivery:

  1. Fixed price delivery. This will mean that you know the total amount it will cost you irrespective of delays through bad weather etc.
  2. Daily rate. Alternatively a skipper will give you a daily rate with the overall cost varying depending on the number of days the trip actually takes
  3. Crew – a skipper will organise their own crew depending on the voyage distance. Trans-Atlantic for instance require a minimum of one skipper with 2 crew.
  4. Assisted passage. Sometimes an owner decides that they would like to travel with the skipper. You need to be aware that this may increase the cost of the trip rather than constitute a saving. Reason: a professional skipper knows his own limitations and will often travel non-stop from A to B without calling into port. Once the owner is on board he has another individual to consider, whose abilities are unknown to him – he may need to put into port more often to give the owner a respite etc. – this will inevitably slow down the trip. However an accompanied voyage does give the advantage of additional experience:
  5. En-route Training. The majority of skippers will be more than happy to use the opportunity to give advice and training to the owner. This can be a very valuable experience. A number of skippers are also RYA instructors and your trip can contribute to your sea miles towards attaining RYA qualifications.

You can access the Skippers List from the download button below. You can then discuss with them in detail your requirements. As a general guideline, in addition to their direct fee, they will require their travel expenses to and from the boat to their home address, all bunkering and marina fees. If there are any essential spares required that are within a budget figure they will purchase them as needed. If there is anything of significant value or a major failure of equipment they would usually contact the owner first to obtain consent and agreement on a specific course of action.

For your part you would need to ensure that the vessel is insured and properly prepared for the voyage. Make sure all necessary safety equipment is on board, galley equipment, navigation instrumentation working correctly etc. In general the skipper will provide their own charts or carry their own lap-top with electronic charts.
