The Maldives was designed and built to cruise through the Canal du Midi or beat to windward through a Biscay gale. It is a comfortable cruising catamaran, built by the French shipyard Fountaine Pajot. Fixed keels, with a fractionall rig, was constructed by shipbuilder B. Nivelt, with a maximum draft of 0.90m. Production began in 1988. Robust but lightweight construction, it is one of the few multihulls to truly delight with its sailing performance, and due to its stability and sailing comfort, it is suitable for coastal cruising. It measures 9.75m in length and 5.3m in width, and can accommodate up to 8 people. It is equipped with a shower and toilet. Previously a class winner in the Round the Island race.
Over the past couple of years this boat has been updated throughout with all flooring, ceilings and internal surfaces being attended to. Externally the hulls have been refinished both above and below the waterline. With an aim to cruise independently, the gas system has now been replaced with electric and the outboard petrol engine too, replaced with an electric unit.
