The Prout 38 is a most accomplished liveaboard or blue water cruiser. It is a nicely sculpted package and as good-looking a cruising cat as you will find in this size. Roomy and comfortable, with high load-carrying capability, the 38 was designed and built for cruising. Prout has championed their rig geometry for years it is working well for them and their boats being both practical and safe. This boat has twin headsails on poles - The Trade Winds Rig- to good effect for comfortable, long distance cruising. Cabins have ample headroom, there is a generous amount of storage space and interiors are light, stylish and well-finished. There are three double cabins with a generous heads compartment. Epoxied from new, and benefiting from sacrificial keel shoes. This boat has been cruising since January 2000, Isle of Scilly, the Bay of Biscay, Cap Verde, over the Atlantic to Antigua, Bermuda and Cuba and the Americas. Why we like this boat - This boat would be an excellent way to introduce your family to multihull cruising. The mast stepped on the aft bulkhead of the cabin, where it has a strong and convenient place to spread the compressive loads, the result is a small, blade-like mainsail and a big foretriangle. This provides reassuring bow lift in a blow and a very user friendly rig off the wind. Both great for sail handling and safety at sea. The fixed keels are durable and serve as good grounding plates that protect the rudder when the cat is beached. A cruising family may not want the bother and care it takes to use and maintain high-aspect-ratio lifting foils. The Prout rig is eminently convenient as a short-handed cruising solution. The interior is light, spacious and airy laid out for a family or two to three couples. This boat benefits from UK vat paid status and a recent survey.
