Richard Woods’ Transit is a bigger version of Eclipse and Sagitta, with a distinct family resemblance. Most catamarans in this size range are designed for the charter market but Transit has been designed for those who enjoy sailing or want to cruise with a family. The Transit design features standing headroom throughout and good all-round visibility from the saloon.
The centre cockpit offers excellent security at sea and a more comfortable ride. Wheel steering and low aspect ratio (LAR) keels aid steering off wind while daggerboards can be used for enhanced upwind performance.
The rig is not too extreme but offers great all round performance and is still easy to handle shorthanded. The Transit will sail as well as its sister ships, Sagitta and Eclipse, with far superior load carrying than either of them. Transit in an ideal family sized expedition or ocean cruiser.
