Freebird 50 catamarans were built to a very high standard; an initial collaboration between a nautical and aeronautical engineer, the hulls were designed for minimum drag and maximum speed. Capable of single handed sailing, it could be used for charter, a weekender or a permanent live aboard. Under sail she is capable of 15 knots with full cruising and live aboard gear. This boat has had one owner since manufacture. It is perfect for long distance cruising, fast, comfortable and a real head turner. One of only 12 made, 4 of which are in private ownership this is a really beautiful, stand-out vessel. The Freebird 50 catamaran design was developed from that of the smaller Firebird design by Modular Moldings, a blisteringly fast 25 foot open deck racing catamaran that twice won the Cowes Round the Island Race. The length and beam were doubled and a deck house added to create a strong, spacious cruising catamaran capable of taking its crew anywhere in the world. Both boats were designed by Toby Richardson, a hugely experienced catamaran sailor and the stress calculations were handled by a former senior member of the British Aerospace engineering team which created the Concorde airliner.
